Called to Move When the World Shakes

There is something deeply powerful in the quiet determination of Luke 9:51. Jesus, fully aware of the suffering that awaited Him, set His face toward Jerusalem and walked into His calling with resolve. That kind of faith…rooted, unwavering, and intentional…is exactly what Black and African American missionaries are being asked to carry in this season. In a world filled with global instability, cultural denial, and political unrest, our calling has not changed. It never depended on comfort or consensus but on a commitment to follow the One who sends us.
To serve as a Black missionary today is to walk a sacred path that often goes unseen or uncelebrated. The increasing efforts to erase Black history are not just attacks on memory but assaults on identity and purpose. Yet our spiritual lineage is rich with pioneers who carried the gospel through chains, resistance, and rejection. Faith has always been our compass and our courage. By standing firm in our identity and calling, we continue their legacy and honor the God who sustained them.
While the world urges retreat, God still calls us forward. The temptation to pause or play it safe is strong, especially when headlines remind us how fragile everything feels. But Jesus’ disciples did not wait for the world to be ready. They moved with clarity and purpose, even when the path was painful. That is our example. We have never needed ideal circumstances to do the work of the Kingdom. We need conviction and trust in the One who has already gone before us.
Faith is not a way to avoid hard truths, but more the strength to face them with hope and direction. When policies change, when funds disappear, when borders close, God remains present. The same Spirit that led Jesus toward Jerusalem is the Spirit that empowers us today. Our presence in missions…whether in our cities or across the globe…is not a mistake. It is a divine assignment. Nothing about this moment is random.
So we move forward with courage. We pray with expectation. We lead with love. We set our face toward Jerusalem and walked into our calling with resolve. And when the world feels too heavy, we remember that faith is not about never feeling afraid. It is about trusting God enough to keep moving forward.
